Post subject:  Edinburgh and Quality vehicle age control

In another thread concerning Edinburgh H/C license application appeals I made the following statement.

In respect of lifting numbers control history tells us that the only time you get an abnormally large increases in license applications is when you lift numbers control without a strict policy of Quality control. The evidence for this lies in Liverpool, Dublin and even Edinburgh. If these areas had in place a strict regime of quality control at the time they delimited then they might not be in the position they are today.

I made that statement with the knowledge that tight quality controls on both vehicles, drivers and owners has a profound effect in limiting entry into the Taxi trade. I don't expect everyone to aggree with my suposition but the evidence is overwhelming.

I am undertaking a mini study into the effects quality control has on entry into the Taxi trade. In the meantime I pose the question why did Edinburgh, Liverpool and Dublin deregulate numbers without first considering the impact total deregulation would have without an element of quality age control on vehicles?

I also pose the question why does Edinburgh still practice such a vehicle policy and what impact a tighter regulated vehicle and perhaps driver policy might have on entry into the Edinburgh Taxi trade?

Regards

What age limit does Edinburgh impose on their Taxi's?

I know like London they are looking at the E7's etc, but I suspect they are waiting on the London decision before they move.

Now if they were to deregulate, perhaps the Edinburgh Knowledge in a new format could be introduced as a quality control for the trade?

Edinburgh do not operate an age limit and as far as I know they have never at any time operated a vehicle age limit?

I suspect it was because punters could never get a cab, but if they did they, were expected to be grateful for it.
