Surely as long as the car has insurance, tax and mot, all bulbs work, the car drives and stops and sas nothing hanging off you'll be fine. These guys are driving examiners not mechanics. I highly doubt they'll be checking tyre pressure etc.

Using a hire car

Hire cars can only be used in tests if they’re fitted with dual controls and meet all the other driving test vehicle rules.

In about 20 days Im taking the private hire practical test. Ill be driving my own car (A toyota yaris..Not the car I intend to taxi in). Apart from the car being clean and my tyres having the correct pressure and thread what else could the instructor look in car (fault wise) and consider not doing the test!?

That should define what license the vehicle should or can have. According to our LA and other posts on here, Once a vehicle is council plated, it remains council plated until such time as it is no longer licensed. If this is the case, I don't think the company can legally put 16 seats in the vehicle anymore.

I already HAVE a D1 licence (but 101) so why would a hired 17 seater need dual controls?

AFAIK there's no need for a certified PSV or a former PSV to have dual controls for the purpose of a driving lesson or a driving test. After all, the OP already has a driving licence and is basically going for an upgrade?
