Hi All I have a bit of a problem in that I have recently survived a heart attack but cannot find out how much of a baring this has on my ability to hold a license. I am reluctant to open the "official" doors to the DVLA or local authority, as the information I have gained so far is contradictory at best. As I write I have just received a call for the Cardiac Rehab centre, who inform me that I am off the road for at least 1 month and it is then at the discretion of the DVLA. Can anyone throw any light on my predicament please |

If you don't tell the DVLA and you have an accident, you are in the poo. If the DVLA have been informed by the hospital then, as you say, it is at the discretion of the DVLA. |

Sudbury wrote: Can anyone throw any light on my predicament please You will need a medical to gain/keep your license. That medical via your GP will indicate to the council that you have had heart problems, usually the council will refer you to their own doctor for another medical, and that's what the council will decide on. My advice is to hide nothing. |

Damn, we are in trouble here then because we have been told that it will be at least 25 years before we get a by-pass. |

Thanks all, this has been more informative than most other sources. As it turns out, I had a heart attack last Sunday and my license is up for renewal on 14/01/14. With this renewal, I am due to have a medical. My Doctor informs me that this should satisfy any requirements of all interested parties. Hopefully he's right |
