3 of our local PH companies have announced that all fares will be single tariff right across the holiday period. A number of drivers are obviously not at all happy with that, I was told that a hack with paid for data went into the office of one of these companies and told them that he is on holiday for the next 2 weeks. when asked if he was going away, he told them that no he wasn't, he was planning to work the ranks instead... the PH company reply was hand in your data on the way out.

Sadly the majority of these companies have a huge proportion of Asian drivers, so they doesn't appear to be any fight amongst them, most will do as their Overlords tell them. While those that do celebrate Christmas and refuse are looking at the dole queue.

I suppose if the drivers aren't celebrating Xmas, then why should they charge extra for working it.

Very happy for people to do what they want, other than forcing others to do something against their will.

I tell my drivers that the coucil rate is double fare and the meter must be set to this. However I also tell them that it is their choice if they want to charge less than the full rate. Oh and the drivers do not pay any extra for the vehicle on bank holidays so any extra that they take, they keep.

Ermm, if drivers refuse how can they be facing the dole queue? If they are employed, it's unfair dismissal; if self-employed, they'll get f all benefits anyway and can work as and when they like.

We have a company here that won't let drivers work on Christmas day. They tell them that the vehicle insurance is not valid on that day.

I think any fair minded punter should not expect a driver to be away from family for little reward or no bonus, especially when many get treble time or more if they work

I priced up a 30 mile job for xmas day and 3 firms all quoted £3 per loaded mile

Another point, too many are being told by base bosses they will (still) charge £1 "normal time" any time day or night, and have to toe the line

WTF are these base bosses trying to achieve by being the cheapest all the time? I spend a lot of my time trying to be the BEST, offering a prompt safe service, not the cheapest.

simple

get the most calls of joe public

rent out the most radios/PDA's

have drivers skint so they have to work

skim more accounts

they arent gonna lower base rents though....

One company I do a bit of work for pays 1.5x the normal rate to drivers on Christmas Day, but I think they charge the customer double. The company obviously keep the extra for themselves, but I'm not too sure.

They also probably charge the customer 1.5x the rate on Boxing Day, New Years Eve (after a certain time), and New Years Day, but the driver's pay is still normal rate.

believe me the asians where you are must be a bunch of muppets, bending over for the ph barons. Down here they started saying lets give something back to the customers and keep the rates the same, the guys told them to reduce the base rent for the week, they soon gave the extra over the Christmas period.
