I dropped off an elderly couple at luton airport. They looked too weak to pull their bags into the terminal. So I did what a good cabby does. I took their bags in and ran back to the car. Arriving found it on the towing track being towed away. I had been away exactly 8 minutes. You have 15 minutes waiting time. I learnt that you are not allowed to leave your car at any point. Paid £180 to get it back.

I was about to suggest the same link. There's also an e-petition on Pepipoo about parking and towing at Luton. Basically what they're doing is illegal.

Keep all the paperwork and details of payment, receipts, is there a VAT number on it, if not HMRC would like to know.

They are not treating it as a security risk, Nidge. They're treating it as a money making exercise in which the police appear complicit. You tow the cars away if they've been there for longer than the time permitted. There was a guy crying bcoz he went to throw rubbish in the bin and he was getting towed.

When I lived in Israel. They meant business about security. If you forgot your grocery at the bus stop. They brought in the bomb squad and blew the tomatoes to oblivion. And that applied to everything. No insecurity here.

This is simply capitalism 101. And it stinks. You don't punish good people for doing good deeds to societies elderly like this. I remember my mother teaching me to help old people cross the road, give up my seat in the bus, and respect them for we will get old and it pays down later in life.

This behaviour stinks and I can't see how they'd justify that. How about charge £55 for every 15 minutes overstayed?
