I dropped off an elderly couple at luton airport. They looked too weak to pull their bags into the terminal. So I did what a good cabby does. I took their bags in and ran back to the car. Arriving found it on the towing track being towed away. I had been away exactly 8 minutes. You have 15 minutes waiting time. I learnt that you are not allowed to leave your car at any point. Paid £180 to get it back.

Noe am wondering, if the airport doesn't have a facility to help the elderly or disabled passengers, why is the goodwill of a cabby punished like this?

How did you think they were going to manage for the rest of their trip? There are enough warnings at airports telling you not to leave your vehicle unattended.

Have a look ay www.pepipoo.com

There is a very long thread on there about Luton. If you still have paperwork, they may be able to help you get your money back.

I was about to suggest the same link. There's also an e-petition on Pepipoo about parking and towing at Luton. Basically what they're doing is illegal.

Keep all the paperwork and details of payment, receipts, is there a VAT number on it, if not HMRC would like to know.

I think we have to charge for folks that need more of our time, so it's a case of parking up in the car parks and putting that on the bill.

Sad but that's the only answer.

The same reason airports charge for everything from dropping off and picking up to taking a dump. £££££££££££££££££
People are just seen as sheep to be shorn. Welcome to Britain's capitalist utopia

Luton has a disabled parking area, if my memory is right, next to the rapid drop where you parked, and there is a phone for assistance. It is the worst drop off for any airport I have been to, and uphill all the way, with no cover,so there passengers get soaked if it's raining, i would never fly from this airport, and tell all my passengers the same.

Not when it's a security risk.

They are not treating it as a security risk, Nidge. They're treating it as a money making exercise in which the police appear complicit. Would you be happy with a clampit monkey lifting and towing a potential car bomb without taking appropriate precautions? It is nothing whatsoever to do with security. Have a look at the links.

If you left a car outside of Heathrow unattended it'd be towed away within seconds. Same applies to all airports.

Apart from the potential security risk it would br an obstruction. How would the airport know how long the car was going to be left unattended. There are signs that say that unattended vehicles will be towed away so that is what they do. If you think that they are wrong, fight it. How would you feel if you were to be trying to drop off in the drop off zone but you couldn't stop because of vehicles left unattended?

You tow the cars away if they've been there for longer than the time permitted. There was a guy crying bcoz he went to throw rubbish in the bin and he was getting towed. :-)

NO! You tow the cars when they have been left unattended.

When I lived in Israel. They meant business about security. If you forgot your grocery at the bus stop. They brought in the bomb squad and blew the tomatoes to oblivion. And that applied to everything. No insecurity here.

This is simply capitalism 101. And it stinks. You don't punish good people for doing good deeds to societies elderly like this. I remember my mother teaching me to help old people cross the road, give up my seat in the bus, and respect them for we will get old and it pays down later in life.

This behaviour stinks and I can't see how they'd justify that. How about charge £55 for every 15 minutes overstayed?

How about you don't leave your vehicle unattended. How about, if you want to leave it unattended, that you park in the car park. #-o
