So, we have all been there, are there, or will always be here.

Say you are a PH Operator with a few cars plus owner drivers. A mix of both or just one of them. There are many drivers out here who work for very little. What's that Lee guy in London? :-/
Anyways, what is the fair way to charge drivers. Take a Weekly Fee (And how much is not TOO MUCH/LITTLE?) or a 30% of a Drivers Turnover?

Or what other methods have you seen out there?

Fairest way in my opinion is to offer the drivers a choice.

If you are working on a percentage then what's to stop a driver working just 8 hours a week and giving you 30% of that?

If it is the drivers car, nothing, if it is the base owners car then the car can always be taken away. Use it or lose it. Simple.

There are plenty of references on here regarding the way I charge drivers. They pay per mile driven.

From a drivers point of view it depends how lazy or hard working you are.

If you are a lazy c*** then the % way is for you.

However if you are a grafter then the fixed fee is the way to go.

That's what I meant by offering drivers a choice.

Those who graft or who work full time for one company, would prefer to pay a set weekly fee.
Some firms set different fees for different shifts, such as a high rate if you wish to work open shift 24hr, or lower rates for day/night shifts only or weekends only etc.

Those who are lazy, work part time, or, er.. receive work from more than one company would obviously prefer to pay a commission from each job.

What's wrong with working just 8 hours?

What's wrong with working 8 hours? Nothing from the driver's perspective, but an operator, supplying a vehicle, insurance and fuel might find it to be unsustainable.

What's the fair one... fair to who? The driver, the operator, the customer? All have their own motives and Turkey's don't vote for Christmas.

Operators who charge a fixed weekly rental have a guaranteed weekly income which should in theory give them the stability to secure a sustainable operation.
