It appears that some taxi drivers in Lincoln are confused as to the whereabouts of the front of the Taxi rank in St Mary Street in Lincoln. A confused driver called the licensing department for a ruling on where the front of the taxi rank actually is. He is apparently (along with others) confused as to whether the front of the rank is that bit at the front of the rank, or is it that bit that twenty yards down the rank, where there is a sign with the legend "rank for 13 taxi's" I can kind of understand his confusion, in a way, because, at the back of the rank,(which is at the other end from the front, to avoid confusion) is another sign saying "rank for 13 taxi's" Anyway, to make a short story long, he made a telephone call to City Hall. I didn't hear the conversation, but I would hazard a guess that he asked " is the front of the rank at the front, in the middle, or at the rear? I would then hazard a guess that the answer was (don't quote me on this) "At the front!" Confusion obviously set in at this juncture because this was not what he wanted to hear. But it is what he heard, so there you are then, it's official. The front of the rank is that bit at the front, and the back of the rank is that bit at the back, the remainder is to be known as the middle. |

You thin that is strange. I was in Stamford for a pick up from Central last Saturday. There is a rank there as well. The front of the rank appeared to be about 30 feet away from the club entrance. There would be a car ranking there and then there would be a gap to a new rank outside the club entrance and then another gap to yet another rank at the takeaway further up the road. Cars seemed to be joining the rank at all 3 locations.

Or did the front of the rank used to be the middle (or by the bin to avoid confusion) due to health and safety concerns that a cab, if parked to far towards the front, might get its door taken off by a bus or something. didn't a certain person get city hall licensing officers down to argue that point? wasn't clarification made in a letter some 12-18 months ago that due to this the front of the rank is where the front post is with the legend ' 13 Taxis' not the rear as this would 1. be daft as you would have to park the wrong way round and 2. You would have to be plain stupid to think that the rear post was the front and not the front post. Talking of Posts there are lots of posts in the Train station some of which have been hit in the past, three are marked 'queue this side' but those of us who are not banned from holding a station pass due to previous misdemeanours use something we were born with 'Common sense'!! |
