its a catch 22/chicken and egg situation

he needs insurance to go and get the meter fitted, then he needs the rooflight on to go for its test, so, for a while, he was driving with a rooflight and meter fitted but no plate......we can all see how that could be interpreted, and he needs a badge to drive the car

Car is being driven home and parked on the drive where the meter will be fitted. It's being driven from there to the Garage to get the road worthiness, and from home to the council offices to be plated and badge picked up.

Council are fine with that, Insurers are fine with that, I don't see a problem or have I missed something?

Technically you need a badge to drive a plated car. But as it would have to be your council that prosecuted you and they have allowed you to drive it, they won't be prosecuting you.

The badge will be issued to me at the same time as the car is plated, so that should be fine, thanks.

There's a guy here who comes to your house to do it all for you. Not sure how the price compares, but everyone I've spoke to uses him and the council publish his number on the guidance paperwork.
