I knocked off for a few hours to attend the 30th Anniversary of the miners strike get together at the Festival Hall in Kirkby in Ashfield. There was some good speakers including Ray Chadburn the ex Notts NUM leader, Henry Richardson another ex Notts NUM leader.

Kris Kitchen from the NUM also spoke about Thatcher and her under the table antics during the strike. Ray Chadburn also told of his struggle to get the NUM recognised in Notts after the birth of the UDM, he said the Coal Board were under orders from Thatcher not to recognise the NUM in Notts.

Scargill was mentioned many times as was the chap who got killed at Ollerton Colliery during picketing duties.

It was a cracking few hours, I even spent a few quid on some Socialist reading material which I must admit was a cracking read.

Was there a minutes silence to remember the taxi driver killed by a block of concrete thrown off a bridge in South Wales?
