Hi guys, A former taxi driver has advised me to maybe go the hybrid route for a PHV. My council only allows 1.6 or over vehicles. Most of the vehicles i have seen (fit my budget) are 1.3 to 1.5. Do you think the council will make an exception for such a vehicle? Also in the long run your saving money right ? no road tax, petrol costs halved etc. |

Hope you have very deep pockets, a guy round here had a couple of Hybrids he was always boosting how much it cost him in fuel compared to others After replacing the cars battery at £4000+ twice Back driving a Toyota Avensis

What about the fact that most of these vehicles are petrol as opposed diesel taxi's? |

You need to look how many big operator's are using this type of vehicle Recently a very big deal for hybrid vehicles fell through in London I believe

It is just like anything in a "Newish" stage - it is best to see/let others with deeper pockets iron out the problems that will undoubtedly arise. The cost as ever is in the sky high region as was everything else when it first starts off, personally I can see the attraction, but would nevertheless give it a miss for a few years. |

A good diesel car will probably cost less in the long run if you are buying. however if you are leasing, then it may be worth it. I believe that Roythebus has a hybrid on lease. |

I recently bought a hybrid - 21 degrees loft and it replaces my 3 iron - its going quite well. |

Yep, I had a Toyota Auris hybrid car on lease for 2 year as a trial. It was an excellent car but failed to achieve the mpg the makers suggest, but then that may have been down to the terrain round here, rather flat and lots of long runs. It may have done better mpg on town work. The servicing cost were rather higher than expected with an oil change every 10,000 miles, quite why I don't know as the engine was probably only working for 8,000 of the 10,000 miles! Your licencing officer will probably licence it as it's eco-friendly and he wouldn't want to upset the local Greens would he? I'd suggest you get the vehicles on a 2-year lease just in case they don't work out as economic as you expect. BTW the Auris had quite a remarkable 0-60 speed!

I'm going to let common sense prevail...and go for a ford Mondeo diesel instead...I can always convert to LPG later if Iwanted to...a £4k bill scares me more . |
