Post subject:  What would you have done?

This was posted on facebook by one of our local taxi drivers.

Won't say where or who... Picked up an old guy this tea time... Ok bit worse for the booze... Could hardly stand let alone walk... Took him home and spent 45 mins trying to help him in.... Watched by neighbours struggling to get him into his house .... Not one single offer to help!!!! Opened his door to see human excrement everywhere!!! Got him in and sat down eventually... Rang the mrs to tell her to call social services as the guy was in conditions the RSPCA would condemn..... Result? ....
It's not a priority so call back tomorrow!
Sorry... This is a priority!!! The man cannot look after himself and clearly needs assistance!!!

What do you all think?

And If you phoned tomorrow you'd only get the same stock answer..."it's not a priority so call back tomorrow!"

Tomorrow never comes..

Typical Social Services. If you had took your child or grandchild to the hospital because they had fallen down and bruised their arm the Social Services would be swarming all over the place.

He is his own worst enemy. He has a heart of gold and sometimes people take advantage of this. A few weeks ago he was naming and shaming some of his regular customers who hadn't paid their fares. He let one customer run up a tab of £140. He has loads of people telling him what a great chap he is but he never sees the possible consequences of what he does. I have warned him on several occasions that he could be putting his badge at risk by getting himself into situations where accusations could be made against him but his friends just tell me to shut up, he is doing great things. He is currently campaigning to get speed humps and restricted parking on his cul de sac due to 2 cats being found dead on the road.

I can imagine the chap waking up this morning and having no idea how much he spent yesterday and then reporting that he has been robbed.

If its a Labour held council then get in touch with the Cons, if it is whoever then get in touch with the opposition, it stirs things up and brings it out into the open, the response is not satisfactory. Departments are being allowed to get away with poor service similar to our hospitals i.e no accountability and will get worse if not pulled up about it. Put the other issues with the driver to one side - on this one he is right

The latest is that the chap is well know to the authorities and does already have a social worker. Social services have been trying to help the guy for months but because he is an alcoholic and gets very aggressive, they are limited to what they can do. They gave his house a thorough cleaning only 2 months ago.
He lives 'over the border' in Rutland and apparently taxi companies there have been advised not to pick him up and take him into town (Oakham) which is probably why he has now ended up in Melton.

In other words, you must be mistaken. It's not our problem. It's your problem. :-|

Trotsky, you nailed it, but sometimes the less said, is more. :-$

Oh and grandad, this driver sounds like an interesting fellow, although, a little naive but then again, it's all about perception, and maybe we fail to see the things he can. :-k :?

He done what he could.

If the authorities don't get a dam, then really he should stand back and get on with his own affairs.
