Seems that under 3 year old must be in the back and over 3 must use a seat belt, but doesn't say if front or back.

this may help - it appears to be a size thing :oops:

although I think some LA's forbid children below a certain age to travel in the front of vehicles.

The Elf and Safety Zealots are muddying the water to suit their own ends..Nowhere does the Government mention that children between 3 and 12 or 1.35Mts tall must use a "correct safety restraint", The government states they must use a Booster seats or Booster cushions and an adult seat belt, yet some bodies make it sound like you need some specialised seat with a specialised restraint attached.

Here's the Goverment's own Guidelines.

The question wasn't about car seats but whether there is an age restriction on kids in the front passenger seat.

All I can find is that under three's can travel without a child seat/seatbelt in PH/HC but only in the back, but can they travel in the front using a child seat ? And over three's must use a seatbelt or child seat - but is that in all positions or just the back seats ?

Taken from our councils documents
Quote:
It is impracticable to expect the right child seat or booster to be available in a taxi unless
parents have brought one with them. Therefore, there is an exception so that if child restraints
are not available in a taxi:
 under 3s may travel unrestrained but in the rear only;
 those 3 years and above must use an adult belt in the rear seat only.
 Remember that a child up to 135 cms in a front seat of any vehicle must use the
correct child seat or booster.
The driver of the taxi is responsible for seat belt wearing by children under 14 years (except in
taxis with fixed partitions”
