70 Years ago today the greatest sea born invasion was launched to defeat the N A Z I S many died , did they sacrifice their lives in vein ? In the recent elections 60% couldnt be bothered to vote .................surely a right all should enjoy? And now we have English citizens supporting RACISM and even advising vote BNP and UKIP 2 disgusting racist party's. What would be the views of all the casualties in the second world to see such events ? remember many were not even old enough [21] at that time to vote themselves but were well prepared to fight and die to give us that right. |

Those that survived, in the main, say it was worth it, and I'm not arguing with them. There are many millions of people alive today because of those sacrifices, and for that I'm very grateful. I even have a customer/friend I run about who fled **** Germany as a 13 year old girl, who then joined the American Army as that was the only way she should get back to Germany to see if any of her family survived. Thankfully most did. Even though some bloke called Messerschmitt had taken over the family house.

"DID THEY WASTE THEIR TIME" Well, if you believe that we have learned nothing from history, and inevitably, we are destined to repeat the mistakes of the past, then yes, it was a waste of their time.

My mum was involved in evacuating children from the city to the countryside in the war. She was 18 when she started this. She used to accompany them on the train to wherever they were going and then go back to the city to take the next lot. On 2 occasions, when she returned to the city her home had been bombed out and she didn't know where her parents were. Fortunately on both occasions they were safe. Oh, the city was Hamburg. |

Grandad my father was in Hamburg May 1945 and in later years he described the devastation he saw there and gave me a book to read on the Firestorms that city suffered, as usual the Politicians that stated the war were no where near the danger zones, Hamburg i'm told being a Port was prior to the N A Z I 's a good Trade Union town and the dockers were good solid trade Unionists, many of course were stuck in concentration camps once Adolfs team took over, and many died, after the War those that survived were very grateful for their Country's and indeed their liberation from that appalling regime, which would not have been possible without D Day and the troops bravery and sacrifices. As some one said " we will remember them" |
