Sutton-in Ashfield arrests in terrorist finance investigation

Two people have been arrested in Nottinghamshire on suspicion of funding terrorism and fraud.

A 19-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman were arrested by the North East Counter Terrorism Unit in Sutton-in Ashfield earlier on on Thursday.

It is in connection with an investigation into alleged fraudulent fundraising for Syrian aid.

A property in the town, near Mansfield, is being searched and the suspects are being questioned.

The man was arrested on suspicion of fundraising and financing terrorism, fraud, and acquiring and transferring criminal property.

The woman is suspected of financing terrorism, and acquiring and transferring criminal property, police said.
