About 3 months ago there was a collision in our town between 2 taxis. One of them was written of straight away. The other one although it seemed that it should be written off, the insurance decided to fix it. I was talking to the driver today, still in the replacement car. He told me that the bill up to now for the hire car was over £32,000 and he still doesn't know when he will be getting his vehicle back. The damaged vehicle was worth no more than £10,000. Where is the logic? |

Where is the logic? With the proviso that nothing comes back on the driver, I really would wish the third part insurer says 'go f*** yourself' to the scam artists. |

If hes got a replacement vehicle then the other party has accepted responsibility (clear cut case?), thats when the sky is the limit sadly |

The real scam is the insurance companies themselves. From what I can see is that they have a reciprocal agreement amongst themselves! They know from experience as to what/where/why an accident has occurred and who is to blame.....and then they agree as to how this will be settled - and how the cost will be passed on. They no longer investigate properly - think about it...............how long is it since they "Apparently" made a profit from car/cab insurance it is all b*ll*cks.

Where is the logic? We've got a Skoda Superb on hire from a car replacement company after one of our cars was in a non fault accident a month ago, the price is an eye watering £230+VAT "a Day."

We are in the wrong business. |

jimbo wrote: So why don't they give the owner/driver £200 a day to compensate? Crazy innit. Probably because, as it has been pointed out, there is a scam. If someone in the insurance office knows someone in the car hire business and they get together with someone in the 3rd party insurance office, they can spin it out for as long as they want and split the proceeds. |

the "ambulance chasers" are either insurance company backed or have access to the accident database cos without telling them myself or ringing any i got inundated with offers of how much id get when i had a scrape, even my insures solicitors said id win when i knew i wouldnt, how bright were they? a truck hit me but there were no witnesses and the driver (probably under company rules) wasnt gonna admit liability |

I was involved in a non fault accident back a few years ago, the rear back passenger side of my vehicle was trashed. There was quite a bit of damage which I felt was repairable.......but they decided to write it off As mentioned by others on here I had a replacement vehicle costing in excess of £260 per day, the same vehicle in our City from the same operator that I got it from would normally be £284 per week.....the insurance company paid. My supposedly written off vehicle was back on the road before I could find a suitable/similar vehicle to the one that I had In many cases the Ins company will tell you which car hire company to go to they are probably shifting monies around within companies.....there is/has got to be an angle in it for them.
