Ok we know that taxi drivers can get work for nothing, after all associated costs of purchasing & licensing a vehicle and themselves, by sitting on a rank and waiting.

Private hire drivers however pay an operator for work of somewhere between £85/£120 pw plus any % creamed off for contract work. This may also apply to taxi drivers that work on circuits.

Now entering the market are online bookers such as Cabfind, Ots, Cabmaia, Minicabit etc, etc and they either take a % of the job or they add a % to the job. There are the chauffeur companies that provide vehicles but pay drivers on an hourly rate, but, only while they have a passenger on board and now we are being offered Apps to obtain work. Apps at the moment are primarily for taxi drivers but there are Apps that can work for private hire drivers as well.

I'm interested in knowing what are the charges for the Apps etc that are out there.

I know Ots have companies bid for work and can take anything from nil to £25 per job, depending on how desperate they are to get it covered.

I think Cabfind add to quotes that are given to them and usually take the cheapest quote but I'm not 100% sure

Minicabit say they take 10% but I've heard of 20% being taken from jobs

Cabmania charge 10% and have to be paid in advance judging by their website

Uber take 20%

I don't know what charges are made by Hailo, Gettaxi, TaxiApp or any others out there and I'm interested to find out.

Also are these % including vat or excluding vat?

So if you know, share it :D

Im PH and have been for 6 years in my current guise, ive paddled my own canoe, with my own PH ops licence, ive had school runs for the whole time as bread and butter (sometimes very well paid, sometimes not so), ive had websites, google ads and used the likes of 118me, only since april have been renting a radio and now would like to switch to a hack plate (change car or respray mine to comply) as when ive dropped off all i can do is wait......unless approached, when i call the office, book the job, have it sent to me and THEN allow the passenger to get in.....

with a hack plate i can use the ranks (we have 3) thereby opening up a total of 3 revenue streams (school, rank, base)

i would avail myself on an app - i can now cos ive that PH ops licence - every holes a goal

£150 here, or £30 a day P/T but no creaming or waiting off accounts as they are full rate and deducted from the rent on pay day (last day of the week), a car is £300 a week all inc 24/7 or £57.50 a day as and when

One airport company, I (used to) work for takes between 20% and 30% on each job + they charge £15 a week for their PDA, which as discussed elsewhere, found it costs a few pounds a week to run + they charge the customer an extra flat rate of £3 per transaction if they wish to pay by credit card.

Nevertheless, in my opinion, what the company charges the customer doesn't matter (some companies I work for, just tell me how much to invoice them - how much they charge the customer, I'll never know), it's what you get paid for the job in the end and if it's worth your while.

You can't really blame them that they're taking their cut (however much it is), after all they're there to make money, otherwise get your own operator's licence, and look for your own work, and charge what you like.

I'm happy to work for other companies for their cut (as long as it's clear and not try to blindly rob drivers, like the PDA charge), as it fills in the gaps around my own work, as it's better doing that, than not earning anything by doing nothing.

Uber for taxis in London is 5% - which probably just covers the cost of processing the customer's card payments, BACS payments into driver's bank account, and the supplied smartphone with their despatch software on it.

BACS payments and even faster payments, which reach the account in less than 2 hours and usually immediately, are free on our account.

So Uber in London provide the smartphone to taxi drivers and charge taxi drivers less, that's nice of them. Anyway at least now I know what Uber charges are. Also lets be straight I'm not slating these companies for making a profit I just want to know what all the different companies charge for the variety of ways drivers can obtain work, well I lie a little ph operators are the devils kin

As will an increasing number of ph drivers out here.

The market is changing, and despite some concerns I'm defo up for change.

Me too, but, with differing prices and % one could be jumping from the frying pan into the fire so to speak. Is it best to have a % of earnings to go to the app owners or maybe a weekly rent of say £10 for instance

Errm I am actually just not all of them and just not at lightening speed without proper consultation or thought of the actual possible consequences. Anyway there's already a thread discussing those things so I guess we should return to the topic at hand

'Get taxi' charge a quid for jobs up to a tenner if I remember rightly.

£2 for jobs over £25 , and the upper limit is £3 which I was charged a few times for acc jobs that went over £60, so not to bad.

The rest of my work comes from stations, and the streets.

That's free.

Obviously that's £2 for jobs UP TO £25, otherwise the bit in the middle would be free . . . #-o
