Don't know if it'll help but the controls are on the 'user control panel' then 'board preferences' then 'edit postings defaults' once you get in to there you should be able to enable the BBcode, smileys etc by default

Toots thanks. It looks like the possibility that a "Clean" program that I started on my computer (because it was starting to run slow) may have wiped out part of the forum software.

I will have to re register as Cabby John1.

My system only seems to restore to a previous close by date,not the date that I would really like. Back some time ago I had a "Restore " program that I could put the date in that I wanted, this would have circumvented the problem that I now have, unfortunately numerous updates later,the "restore" prog does not give me that leeway. I had run a "Clean" prog on my computer as it was running a bit slower than normal,this has probably something to do with it. Admin have said that it is not from their end, on that they are probably right.

As such I have re registered as "Cabby John 1", hopefully this sorts out the problem.....we will see.
