Nearly 18 hours without food or drink? Nah not for me, it takes some doing.

While fasting from dawn until sunset, Muslims refrain from consuming food, drinking liquids, smoking, and engaging in sexual relations; in some interpretations Muslims also refrain from other behavior which could be perceived as sinful such as swearing, engaging in disagreements, backbiting and procrastination. Food and drink is served daily, before dawn and after sunset. Spiritual rewards thawab for fasting are also believed to be multiplied within the month of Ramadan. Fasting for Muslims during Ramadan typically includes the increased offering of salat (prayers) and recitation of the Quran.

Lent (Latin: Quadragesima - English: Fortieth) is a solemn religious observance in the liturgical calendar of many Christian denominations that begins on Ash Wednesday and covers a period of approximately six weeks before Easter Day. The traditional purpose of Lent is the preparation of the believer through prayer, penance, repentance of sins, almsgiving, atonement and self-denial. This event, along with its pious customs are observed by Christians in the Anglican, Reformed, Lutheran, Methodist, and Roman Catholic traditions.Today, some Anabaptist and evangelical churches also observe the Lenten season.

Throughout Christendom, some adherents mark the season with the traditional abstention from the consumption of meat, most notably among Roman Catholics.

Lent is traditionally described as lasting for forty days, in commemoration of the forty days which, according to the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke, Jesus spent, before beginning his public ministry, fasting in the desert, where he endured temptation by the Devil. In most of the West, it begins on Ash Wednesday

That's the shot, Turn a non even into something glorious, where's the big deal? the guy was in a Desert, Not water or food to be had..what bloody option was there but to fast??

I endure that each trip to the beach, unless one of the Family get's off it's fat arse to go buy a can of Tizer and a Scotch egg we all fast..at least until hunger cuts in...It's cross between Patience and the Hunger games.

We Christians do things in reverse, we do Christmas, It's the Opposite to Ramadan where we have to eat and drink and eat and drink constantly and excessively for the full 12 days of Christmas, then for good measure we have to indulge our ancient Pagan side as well at Hogmanay (Newyears eve) where we have to double up on the eating and drinking and really crank up the excess of food and Drink.

After the 12 Days we offer thanks to "Andrews" the God of Liver salts for allowing our survival and we also offer prayers to a lesser god "Rennie" who eases the Burning in hell pain that Christmas dictates we must endure.

After all that if the Devil does not get you the Calories will.

So, there you are, a quick insight into how Christianity works..........at least at Christmas.

Actually we Christians have our own version of ramadan. It is called lent. It runs for 6 weeks. Most Christians don't observe lent in full any more and some of us choose to just give up something like chocolate as a token gesture. We celebrate the end of lent on Easter Sunday.
