Hi all,

I know i'll be asking a "difficult" question at this moment as APP's are in the order of the the day... and... as here in Portugal everybody has complaints and questions... but as a dispatch service we see as the future of the taxi industry model or at least part of the "revolution" and we don't want to be behind...

We had here an idea, why should a UK tourist in Portugal after reaching the airport have to install another app, a "portuguese one", to get a taxi ... a simple and regular taxi... not an UBER or whatever taxi... why not join efforts with some UK taxi company and do it both ways... when UK traveller reaches Portugal uses the exactly same app that a portuguese one in London... no hassle no worries... Basically it's a "share the fleet" operations as a value added...

I think it's a way to use local taxi companies in each country which enforce their regulation and the quality of service better that UBER or other companies alike... Would be a way to avoid cutting on the business margin to get business because the prices would be fare meter.

Does this makes sense also to UK drivers? And employers? It makes sense to the majority of travel agencies here in Portugal concerned about transfers of the people they send abroad and that they're asking for pre-paid taxi travel voucher in several countries...

So, regarding this we are collecting opinions, toughts and advices... AND IDEAS...

Best regards,
Tiago Matias

P.S. - We have UBER here also in Portugal since a month ago (+-)...

pretty sure this should be posted in the equipment section - but giving leverage (because I am a new moderator and not yet power mad) due to the chap being from Portugal

It would make sense but the taxi trade isn't renown for making sense.

Most people arriving at the airport, if they need a cab, will go to the rank and pay over the top.

I think the APPS will finally be some sort of answer in 10 or so years time, but if I was you now I would have a very good English website as I think most if not all people visiting would use google rather than uber to find info on local cabs.

Sounds like a good suggestion there. I for one don't use apps, don't know how to use apps, and can't be arsed to learn how to use apps. I'd quite happily look for a cab on google or another search engine before I go rather than risk picking up some unlicenced car when I get there.

There may also be the British problem of operators in another country taking on bookings, which is what a lot of the anti-Uber campaign is about, despite the OP being a legitimate operator.
