Report it to your insurance but tell them it is for "information purposes only" it will NOT affect your no claims and if he decides to make a claim at a later date you will be covered. Most insurance companies have a 14 day rule about informing them. If you tell them after this date , they can refuse to cover you although they will cover the other drivers claim should it be successful. |

I am in a no damage no claim situation having reported a (police verified) non fault accident. The Ins companies look for the slightest reason to take your no claims bonus away in order to hike your renewal back up. There is history on the net whereby companies have tried this tactic........only to back down, unfortunately I am fighting a company that are not voluntarily doing the right thing. So I guess it really can affect your No Claims. |

I've always been told it doesn't, and in my case I have informed them twice of incidents, (one was when another driver pulled off a rank as I was passing him and he hit me, the other when a passing mini-bus broke my mirror glass while I was parked up, he tried to say I opened door before eventually paying me £30 for a new mirror glass.) in both cases it never affected my insurance. The problem is, if you don't inform them and a subsequent claim is made against you, you could be in trouble. If you can get a cash settlement off the other party (or even better a cheque and something in writing that is probably best. |

The phrase " Damned if we do, Damned if we don't " springs to mind. |

A truck swiped me Oct 2010 causing rear wheel arch damage, driver crossed lanes, no indication on an island, denied it was his fault i reported it, got quotes (£1200) then worked out my NCB over the 4 years id take to rebuild it would cost me £2400 so i paid £350 cash for quick fix then the truck owner tried to claim off me via a claims company, so then i had to try claiming off him, then we both agreed NOT to claim, however in the december my renewal came up and my NCB got suspended till it was sorted, which it was in the April (id paid £700 more than id have had to) and i got that back in the July |
