I am currently a private hire driver but to be honest I've wanted to get on the cabs for years. I've had enough of the cars, being tied in to a firm, feeding, all the usual. I'm not expecting to be making big bucks or whatever, I just fancy a change. I wonder if there are any Liverpool cabbies who may be able to give me a bit of info or answer a few questions for me. I've got my badge just not got a cab yet, been putting it off for a while. |

I am a hackney taxi driver. If you drive them, you can get a long collar for around £260 from a private owner. most taxi drivers on the long collar work monday to thursday ndays, and normally friday and saturday night. after a year if you like it buy your own. You can get a decent cab and plate for around £32, 000. . When you have been driving them for a while, get yourself a radio set. Phoenix taxis, is a co-op set up by black cabs to compete with private hire. they charge private hire rates day and night. I think on the weekends its 20% more. I know a few drivers who work for them and say they are busy. there is also comcabs, who have the contracts for the hospitals and social services, all account work. good luck.

Thanks for the replies. Obviously having done PH for a few years I'm used to the hours etc but it's just going to take a bit of getting used to a new way of working. By this I mean where to work and when, which ranks are the best to work, stations etc. I've spoken to Stanley's who won't put you in a cab without 2 yrs experience so I'm hoping G.Gawith can do something for me. Im hopefully going to start in January if I can get everything sorted out. Any more tips from drivers are VERY welcome Thanks |

Start with Gawiths most drivers do. normally for the first year. i believe the settles are a little higher. but they always have a taxi available. the settle quoted includes insurance. during the day either work town ranks or local shops. if you work the airport you need a permit from peel holdings. Each time you rank up there, you have to pay a fee , which the customer pays. if you drop of there, you need to charge customers £2. good luck. when liverpool or everton play local games its busy. |

If you go to the online link at John Lennon Airport and send your details over they will send you card which will give you 50% discount on the parking fee |
