So with my mind on other things...... for the first time in my life, i put the wrong fuel into my rented car... and as soon as i realised ( £5 pounds worth ) i shat a brick and then filled the tank to the max with diesel.... i have driven it all night and not had any problems but i am still worried that something may go wrong ? and as it is a rental and is a a new car 2014 skoda rapid with 50,000 miles on it. I'm bricking it :-|

Now from what i've read i should never let the fuel level go below 75% and keep topping it up... but sooner or later i will need to hand the car in for a check or swap it. And handing back a rental with a full tank will look a bit suspicious.... how long would i be looking at needing to keep filling it till it's out of the system ?

thanks

We had a driver put £30 of petrol in one of our cars instead of diesel. He reported that it was running "a bit rough.2 and then realised why. At this point the tank was around half full so we filled it to the brim with diesel and changed the fuel filter.
We kept it topped up every day for the next 2 weeks and we had no problems. This was about 5 years ago. When the car became to old for us to use as a taxi we sold it to a chap for his wife to drive. It is still running great.
Basically, for £5.00 worth of petrol, don't worry.

Redex Diesel treatment is basically petrol. It'll clean your injectors out if anything and make it a better runner.

Can you all remember the old Ford OHC engines? A mechanic at our local Ford dealership told me to put 1 gallon of diesel in for every full tank of petrol, that car ran like a dream for years.

It generally tends to blow a little bit of smoke, other than that you would soon know if you've overdosed the engine.

A good few years ago I was driving my own family car a diesel, and a rented car a petrol, not concentrating I did the inevitable. The garage pumped it out and presented me with the invoice and I promptly paid, followed by the question from me..........where is the fuel you pumped out?

Without boring the life out of everyone, I listened to all the BS excuses from them as to why it was now theirs, followed by I could not use it again, blah blah blah. I insisted that the fuel that they had drained off (and kept) was mine, it was returned (strange as to why they had NOT thrown it away  ), I then fed into the tank a few gallons at a time, with NO downside.

I've done likewise and have had no ill effect.
