Invitation: Raising Awareness of Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) ‐ An Event for Taxi Companies
Following publication of the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Exploitation in Rotherham, Sefton
Council and its partners within the Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) have reviewed local
procedures. Your company’s involvement in keeping children and young people safe in the community is
crucial and with that in mind I would like to invite you to an event specifically for taxi company staff.
This event will take place on Wednesday, 17th December 2014 @ 1.30pm – 3pm (Venue: Crosby Lakeside
Adventure Centre, Crosby Coastal Park, Off Cambridge Road, Waterloo L22 1RR).
(The event will be promoted in the local media and will highlight how local taxi firms are helping to keep
children safe).
Speakers will include:
Colin Pettigrew – Director of Children’s Services, Sefton Council
Kara Haskayne – Safeguarding Children Service Manager, Sefton Council
Clare Lawson – Business Manager, Sefton Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB)
This will provide us with an opportunity to look at this issue together and raise awareness of child sexual
exploitation (CSE) prior to the Christmas and New Year period. All attendees will be provided with a pack of
resources, free of charge. This will include cards for taxi drivers and members of the public illustrating key
messages on how to recognise and respond to CSE, along with self adhesive banners for rear windscreens
of vehicles, reminding people to be aware of this form of abuse. Staff from Sefton LSCB will also be present
to highlight the wider work of the partnership.
