I was involved in a collision, not my fault. There doesn't seem to have been any problem with the other driver accepting liability for the collision but it seems that there is some sort of dispute regarding the cost of hiring the replacement vehicle whilst mine was off the road. it looks like it will be going to court. The amount claimed for the hire is................................£17,067.96 plus court fees of £610 and solicitors fees yet to be determined. OUCH! |

Be interested in the outcome of this, cos I think we all agree it is one big fat juicy racket. I think there is a lot more to this than just the hire charge. The repairing garage may also be complicit in making sure the figure got so high. They said that they started the repairs on a certain date but we have a tracker on the vehicle and it clearly shows that the vehicle did not go into the workshop from the yard until 3 weeks later. When i pointed this out there was uproar. When we eventually got the car back the quality of the workmanship was awful. We have had to have another report done to try and get the job done right. the damage was right down the drivers side of the vehicle and the only bit that didn't get damaged was the back bumper. Both doors are not fitting properly and you have to be quite firm with the front door to get it to close. The paintwork is 2 different colours and neither of them are the same as the original colour of the back bumper. There are paint runs along the sill. The back door actually sticks out by over a quarter of an inch from the body of the car. The car is less than 2 years old. When I pointed out the problems to the garage they said "well it is a taxi, what do you expect." Our insurance company are not very impressed at the moment. |

OUCH! them vehicle hire places are a rip off We've had a few over the last year, the latest one was a Skoda Superb @ £200 per day plus VAT. indeed an absolute racket by the likes of helphire and their ilk, that said insurance companies don't help themselves, I was involved in a non fault claim a couple of years back and the other parties insurance admitted liability the next day, spoke to them about a hire car and they offered an unplated vehicle, asked if they wanted to pay for a base rental to which I was told you pay it and then claim it back. politely declined and engaged the services of a company providing accident management services. 24 hours later I had a car delivered from Manchester on Glasgow plates being billed at £250+ vat a day. the rental of a base car that I had asked for at the time was £160 inc a week. I also would have settled for £100 a day cash to sit at home with my feet up insurance companies are as bad as the banks when it comes to throwing money around it seems |

I had a truck scrape my rear N/S wheel arch on an island, he changed lanes (or wandered across) with no indication "TCALS".......HE tried to claim off ME after id paid for a cash repair as the driver denied it was his fault, that claim was via accident claim company (no pay no fee) - it failed - since then ive had many calls about me claiming for the accident from the same sort of blaggers, im sure the insurance companies sell on details to these vultures *"TCALS" - To Cut a Long Story Short....

I guess they argument from the hirers is they are only out for a short period of time and are only used occasionally so their costs have to be met otherwise there wouldn't be any vehicles sat there waiting in case taxis/ph have accidents. Once licensed up they can't be for general hire by anybody else |

The plates on the one we had were 6 months old and it had been on hire here before. |

Helphire hired it from me whilst some one else had accident damage fixed. I was paid £200 per day and the limo was away for 6 months, yes 6 months! That was a good earner. |
