Aintree racecourse assault: Man who filmed footage says it was 'an accident nothing more' Man who claims he filmed the video says it was a 'total accidental collision' A man who claims he filmed a drunken racegoer barge into an elderly man and knock him down outside Aintree said it was a “total accidental collision”. He said the incident, which happened on Thursday, "was an accident nothing more". On his Facebook page the man claimed the video was edited to make it look like the barge was deliberate. In his first statement, posted at 4am today, he says he has just come back from the police station, where he has given them the longer video (watch above). He added: “This was an accident nothing more. I laugh at the build up of my mate staggering down the street, he staggers into the old man and I laugh at the way he goes down slow, it’s childish I agree but with no malice or intent. “I should have realised sooner it was a serious fall, but I’m drunk as well. Just so people know when the camera goes off I check the fellas ok cos I realise the seriousness, I’ve left knowing he’s with responsible people taking care of him and I’m glad to hear the fellas fine, I have tried ringing the hospital Friday to check on him but they couldn’t give out any information.” Later, in a post written at 8.30am, he added: “Please watch the full video judge for yourself and let’s see what the police say about it all. This is an unbelievable turn of events that has escalated out of all control. “I’m hoping common sense prevails and people give as much exposure to the true video as they have to the bad one.” He goes on to thank family and friends of their support and says he doesn’t know who posted the shortened version online. The shorter version has now been removed from YouTube. Last night police confirmed that they were speaking to a man who had come to a police station. A statement said: “Merseyside Police can confirm that a man has tonight voluntarily attended a local police station and will be spoken to by officers about an alleged assault in the Aintree area in which another man was pushed to the floor and suffered a facial injury.” http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liv ... ar_twitter |
