A brief return to the site to appeal for information is there any legislation which governs which direction vehicles rank up from Do they have to rank up in the direction of travel i.e. drivers door offside or can the drivers simply rank up whichever direction they choose even if that means they are facing the "wrong way" I was told many years ago that you rank up according to what side of the road the rank is on but now apparently anything goes as there is no provision in law to govern this I will offer thanks to those who can provide me with some useful information but to everyone else please don't abuse this thread ! |

Welcome back. I think there are no national laws, but I can't see why the council can't make it a licensing condition. |

we had something similar here - one wind up merchant of a driver pulling on a taxi rank and facing the wrong way - not sure if there's a national law - but maybe the highway code can help? |

Surely falls under common sense and decency to other road user laws, although councils don't operate that way with us Taxi drivers I think maybe we as professionals should. The one that pis--s me off in Edinburgh is the George Street East heading east Rank, George street East heading west is closed, our council has placed the rank way past the George hotel, meaning we have to go round a very busy block if sent a job to pick up at the George Hotel, it can take up to 10 minutes to get round, making no sense at all, a rank was based before the George but then moved well past. |

At night time here we use unofficial ranks outside the pubs and clubs, with the OK from the police and licensing. Both of these "ranks" are facing the wrong way. |

Why and What's the problem with facing the right way? One road is one way and we just park on the side nearest the club. the other is a cul-de-sac and there is more room on that side of the road. Both are on double yellow lines. |

Can't vision (safety concerns) ranked up facing the wrong way on a one way street, both sides are the right way, also Safety concerns if doing a u-turn on wrong side of a Cul-de-sac, using your near side wing mirror must be a/the concern. |

Well parked on the wrong side of the road then. |

Our rank was passenger doors at kerb, but the rank and street, was reversed while the council build a new bus station, they did move us to the other side ,but it interfered with a funeral parlour. |
