i always get a pre mot of my mech, i had a advisory on the orange bulb on the off side rear that the paint was coming off
, why didn't he just tell me? , petty as anything the council here

I cant see how its of any relevance |

It's of great relevance; it shows whether or not you maintain your car properly. I accept a bulb can fail on the way to the test, but how long was it since you checked the bulb? To far too many cabbies, the compliance test is used to find out what's wrong with the car rather than doing regular servicing and safety checks. |

and would a base owner with 100 cars on tap know which didnt pass 1st attempt? how many do pass 1st time? our LA has a "special condition" test for cars (HC/PH) over 6 years, 1 question is.... "Have the brakes, steering, suspension, exhaust and battery got 5000 miles of life in them" A Mystic meg MOT.... |

Starting in May up here, if a cab that is presented for test/Mot fails, it's red stickered until it passes, meaning an owner can't work the Cab until it's faults have been sorted, potentially puting the vehicle off the road for a week or two, due to availability of re-test dates and times, squeaky bum time for those owners Roy. |

Hence my policy of having the car safety checked at a local garage regularly, especially the day before the compliance test. We have to do this in the bus and lorry industries where the first time pass rate for buses is about 83%. Worst pass rate are small vans, about 45%. It's worrying to know there's so many dodgy vans running around out there. |

as said sometimes the faults are minor, I had a fail at my last test for a foglight bulb being out. 5 mins in the car park and retested and passed. then you hear stories of guys cabs failing tests and getting 2 grands worth of welding work to make it roadworthy. |

But thats the point, it passed, its got a plate, a PH/HC is the worry of the LA (district council) not the county council, unless theres new legislation or they want to introduce their own tests |
