Hi lads,

I have been reading these boards for a few weeks as I want to join your trade.

I am planning on sitting my Topography/Knowledge Examination before the end of the year as I really want to join the trade.

Quick question - How easy is it to get a drive after I have my licence? I plan to try and buy a plate next year as I have raised the crazy amount needed :)

Your advices would be very helpfull

sitius dont tell me things are stable at the moment in the plate values.
if you think they are then thats fine thats youre opinion.
but for gods sake dont go encouraging someone to spend that sort of dough on something that never has had a value can never really be owned .
especially at the moment
just so you can back up youre argument

So would you say its wise to wait and not buy a plate at the moment?

Is there a plan to release more plates and thats why the value is not stable?

What about the people that have them now.

I would like to get past my test, work for someone for a year and then get my own cab.

What would be the best way to get my own cab if I cannot buy a plate. Is there a waiting list I could go on?

Sorry I am very new to all this

nope the waiting list has been closed since 1994
its ran on a points system more time driving more points etc
strange that you cant get on this
espicially since those that meet the critiria to go to the top of the list
cant get on it in the first place,
democracy at work in edinburgh
my advice to you is this if you want to drive a taxi! fine do it for a while
get to know the ropes before commiting any money to it

thing are very rocky at the moment all over the country
commit nothing just now

I would say that restricting councils are encouraging non plate-holders to buy plates, by restricting.

Quite simple really, no restrictions, no temptation to buy. No more 'I'm going to lose my house' scare-mongering.
