I received a letter from our enforcement team this morning stating that following a complaint that some people were using incorrectly calibrated meters the Council records have been checked and no record can be found for any of our vehicles. the tariff was changed on April 1st 2014. I know that the certificates went to the Council because i took them in myself. A couple of points here.
1. Where did they all go after handing them in?
2. When the tariff change was brought in owners were required to submit the certificate so why has it taken over a year and a complaint to notice that they hadn't been received?

Why doesn't the council get it's officers to go down the ranks and/or the offices and test the meters themselves?

They are meant to do that, ask your council inspector to come at a time convenient to you, to the measured mile

Grandad, ive never seen a meter calibration certificate, but i know which 2 lamposts our LA have decided are a mile apart

When ever our meters are set to a new tariff we get a calibration certificate.

I have never seen one ether, the metre is set, driven over set points up to half a mile, if correct its sealed,
You should be bringing this up with the council, its what your paying for.

Depending on what sort of meter you've got you'll get a little round seal with a Gygnus which is as good as any certificate.

Why they need a certificate is beyond me.

the certificate doesn't cost any extra. the fact that the Council require it but then don't follow through and check if the have received them is the annoying bit.

Why would I want to do that when I have the original? When the rate goes up and the meter is changed to the new rate a certificate is issued. Why would I want to change it?
The certificate is not the problem here, it is what happens to it when it is given to the Council and it looks like it just gets lost in the system.

Ok, ask for an appointment with the LO, take the certificate in, show it, later get an email confirming he has seen it

We don't have a problem with providing the certificates. It is the fact that once handed in they lose track of them to the point of saying that they have not been received. it is the internal postal system that seems to be the problem.

If you present a "copy" invoice of the costs of having the meters calibrated i.e that is proof that they were done, you could argue that there would be no reason not to have sent them.

Common sense........is just not that Common.

Depending on who sets the meter, all depends on type, the meter setters note down the plate number and once they are all done, faxes a copy to the council, they council can then check who has been done
