right, i am talking myself out of work here but ...
why are some of these kids on school runs? can someone tell me? ,the parents of mine for example is sitting on there fat arses all day doing nothing with a berlingo ( 2 years old) outside, never worked or his wife, yet they still have there kids picked up , taken to school & dropped off , sorry if i was in charge of the local council in this dept the following would happen

Kids who are outside mainstream education by being statemented or behaviour get transport to school

I do a last resort school now, pretty much how you describe, if they get banned from this one they have no where to go

HOWEVER i had 4 years work into a special needs school, statemented kids, 2 of the 3 families were not chavs, they had big houses and flash motors (better than youve got) but as a court had decided the kids needed the funding for £15,000 a year fees they also qualified for the transport

We have a school run thats sent out as a normal booking each day. It's a fixed fare of £2.40 !! (it clocks £2.60, why our office took it on I dont know).

When you arrive at the house the kid gets out and goes to the door where mum is stood in her pyjamas waving at you, she wont come to you so you go to her where she hands you a £20 note - every feckin day !

The booking is sent out ten minutes before its due, then you have to park, go to reception, wait for them to fetch the kid, go back to the car. All in all a good 20-25 minutes for 300 yards and £2.40. And the office can't understand why no cars will plot that area at school closing time.

my 1st school run started out at £30 mornings, same in the afternoon, 30 miles each way....6 days a week £360 a week


after 4 years id none of the original 3 kids, 3 new ones had replaced them and i was getting £110 a day x 6 days a week, but only 11 miles morning and 11 miles afternoon....£660

On the flip side what about the other ones that only go round the corner where you get £10?

a lot of our school runs are for mainstream school where the students live more than 3 miles from the school so they are entitled by law to free transport. The roads are often narrow and bendy so they are unsuitable for buses.

why? that's what i cat get my head around tbh. they have cars outside the house, don't work, ( i know as i have had conversations with them ) so why cant they take them & pick them up? other people who work have to make arrangement for there kids, are they different just because there kids are in a wheelchair or have learning difficulties? don't get me wrong its money for nothing tbh , i just cant understand why the council do it , one of the drivers i meet at the school has had his run changed after the holidays as one of the parents ( also doesn't work & has 2 cars on the drive) got her kid refused as it was under 1 mile from the school, she took it to a tribunal & won !

Because its the KIDS interest that matters, not parents, and like with my old one, why are parents in a £350K house with 2 beemers getting school fees and taxi fares FOC.....cos its the KIDS welfare that matters

It would be a legal obligation. Trust me, if the Council could get out of providing transport, they would.

EVERYTHING should be means tested and liable to contributions (BTW the school fees were £15,000 a year)
