A BURTON taxi driver has been sent to prison for 10 years after being found guilty of raping a woman.

Shanzad Akram has been jailed for 10 years after being found guilty of rape following a hearing at Derby Crown Court.

Akram, 32, of Beech Street, Burton, had denied raping a woman in her 20s in Woodville.

Today he was found guilty by a jury at Derby Crown Court.

Jailing Akram, Judge Ebrahim Mooncey said: "This is a case where you were accused of raping a woman, at the time you were working as a taxi driver in Burton and it was about 5am when she came to your taxi accompanied by her friend.

Because of her condition she was unable to talk to you directly"

Judge Mooncey said Akram had taken her down a country lane because "she was completely and utterly out of it".
