I've put together a small (ish) website to inform potential Uber customers of the information they may not be aware of that is online regarding Uber. dontuseuber.com

I'm interested to know if drivers on here think it's a worthwhile project to continue or not.

I've only just added it to google so I'd be surprised if it's been found by their crawlers yet. However, on blogger it's had a decent amount of hits in the last few days.

I was looking at adding a news piece everyday but maybe long term thought that drivers that are pee'd off with uber could advertise the site on the back of their taxis - to inform local customers of the bad press Uber gets. (?) I am more than happy if someone wants a car sticker sent out. Don't know what the your councils views would be on that though.

I'm a little more than cheesed off that Uber got their private hire operators licence the SAME week Newcastle Council decided to give up on any locality test for private hire. Basically all you need now is a driving licence and you can get a private hire badge in Newcastle.

I'm all for competition but I'm more than happy playing dirty if Uber wants to. There is a guy in Australia that has set up a similar website and even arrests Uber drivers when he notices illegal activity. I've just read that Nevada believes Uber is illegal and has stopped their app in that state.

....and this isn't a "hackney" v "private hire" argument. I'm sure some private hire drivers and companies are also fed up with the bullying tactics Uber have taken upon themselves in the Uk.

The end game for Uber is simple - one choice for the customer...they will not stop until they decimate the trade with their long term goal driverless cars. See the website.

They obviously aren't bothered with the drivers they have working for them with the amount of Uber strikes in America. When there is no choice, the rates which Uber give will be reduced until drivers work for minimum wage (or less).

I've tried with the guys that work our rank in Newcastle to offer 10% discounted fares to compete with the likes of Uber and even made made magnetic signage but some people can't see the bigger, long term picture. The idea was knocked on the head within a few weeks.

Anyway...any views good or bad are welcome - not vicious though

Who the hell is paying 2 x the price when they have the option of 300 black cabs in the city - I'm at a loss. People are weird

I can see valid points in both sides of the argument. I think a lot of it will depend on the area that people work. Some areas have lots of work and a population that has a bit more spare cash. These places are where Toots' model will be working. Merseyside is supposed to be one of the places that is on the up. I don't know if that is right because I have never been there. The north East may not be that affluent so punters are still watching the pennies. In my own small town there are no apps yet but we are finding that more and more people are phoning for a car than wanting to stand on the street corner and hope. We are answering around 80% more calls this year than last year
