due to my insurance companies approved repairers taking 3 weeks to complete a 6 day repair ( part stuck in calais allegedly) My council which had allowed me a 7 day extension has now refused to re-license my vehicle. It was suggested that i license it in Rutland instead as i only live 200 yards from the border. But Rutland won't allow me to do that as i cannot GUARANTEE or prove that the majority i.e. 60% plus of my work would be in Rutland due to the Newcastle Berwick court case that requires councils to ask the question So if Rutland have to apply this rule why don't Rossendale et al also have to operate along similar guidelines ? |

I would make a complaint to the council and then to the Ombudsman, and also claim against the insurance for your new losses. It's worth mentioning that legally councils are not allowed to have hard and fast rules, or in legal speak 'fettering their discretion'. So they are not in a strong position if you complain. Do you not know anyone who lives in Rutland, who could be your operator? |

A friend of mine recently snapped his Achilles' tendon trying to help a member of the public whose car had Broken down. That's at least 12 weeks off work minimum. His plate was due for renewal 4 weeks after he did it. He informed the council and asked them if they could suspend his license until he could drive again. They refused point blank and told him if he didn't plate it on time it would be treated as a new application and he would also have to put a car less than 3 1/2 yrs on. They had no sympathy whatsoever for him. He is a single parent trying to bring 2 teenage boys up on his own. We had to hire a car trailer to take it to the testing station as I wouldn't have been insured to drive it ( neither would anyone else) |

Since when have you known Rutland to actually check anything to do with Taxis? Manor taxis in Melton have several vehicles plated in Rutland. |

I have decided to bite the bullet and write the vehicle off either via the insurance or vehicle testing station both are offering and replace it with a non wheelchair access trouble is at the moment 8 seaters are very difficult to come by as manufacturers are struggling to get euro 6 compliant vehicles into the market so not much available other than a few euro 5 vehicles still not yet sold. That will mean that SKDC will now have no WAV's on their books mind you it is nearly impossible to compete with the volunteer sector on wheelchair work. I suspect grandad that this was more about persuading me to go PH with rutland who insisted that if i set up an office and phone in the petrol station round the corner and pay for ops licenses etc. that i would be legal |
