Just received an email from Lyn.Whitehead@lancashire.pnn.police.uk I googled it and come up with this - be warned! Lyn Whitehead Lancashire.pnn.police.uk Email Phishing / Virus / Hacking Threat I just had an email from Lyn.Whitehead@lancashire.pnn.police.uk, delivering an invoice for payment. It is a Word doc, but I have not yet opened it. It is obviously a scam of some sort – and one that has not be picked up by Google (I use Gmail and they catch a lot of spam and phishing messages). The email reads: Hello Please find attached an invoice that is now due for payment. Regards Lyn Lyn Whitehead (10688) Business Support Department – Headquarters If you get an email like this, don’t open the attachment, don’t reply. Just delete it. Sane Security have also picked this up – read about it here. Apparently, the attached document will auto run on Windows, and therefore infect your PC with something pretty nasty. What is unclear is, how is somebody sending spam mail from a UK Police email address? I cannot dig deeper right now (on my lunch break!) so if anybody knows, feel free to comment below. http://www.webologist.co.uk/internet-se ... ing-threat |

it only appears to be from that source, youd need the email headers to verify its actual source and IP address |

https://www.facebook.com/lancspolice E-MAIL VIRUS ALERT - UPDATE - Many people around the world have today received an email that appears to have been sent from a legitimate Lancashire Constabulary email address. The email appears to come from ‘Lyn Whitehead’ and is asking the recipient to pay an invoice that is attached to the email. This is spam, and if you have received it you MUST NOT open it. Instead delete it from your email system. If you have opened the attachment and ‘enabled macros’ it is very likely that all your personal data will have been breached. You MUST change all your passwords for personal accounts, including your bank accounts. This email has NOT BEEN sent from Lancashire Constabulary. A third party supplier to the Constabulary has had their data breached, as a result of the breach this Lancashire Constabulary email address has been spoofed and used to generate spam to recipients far and wide. There is now an investigation underway to determine the source of the attack on this third party, but we want to reassure you that the Constabulary’s systems have not been breached or compromised in any way. The email has not been generated from inside the Constabulary or by the Constabulary. If you have shared information with us, we can assure you that it is safe. You can get more advice on this by visiting the following websites: http://socsi.in/UKH8g http://socsi.in/OOqZC If you have opened the attachment please ensure you change the passwords for all your bank, email and online shopping accounts - http://socsi.in/A4bCt The most common Internet Scams are updated on - http://socsi.in/tGmmx If you believe you have been attacked by the virus, have had your data breached and have suffered loss as a result, then please report this direct to http://socsi.in/z7jrd rather than reporting it to the Constabulary on 101 |
