A typical day working with UBER . The first thing to know is that it is very different when compared to working for other operators, the whole model is different, so for example an UBER driver does not pay any base rent. An UBER driver can come and go as they please, work the hours which they choose to work, and accept or refuse jobs provided to them via the UBER platform. UBER drivers do not know the destination of any job provided until the passenger is collected and the trip begins. The morning hours are busy hours for UBER drivers, and like all other franchises, the day time hours are quieter, however with UBER you can maximise your earning potential throughout the day by using your local knowledge to work out where most work is likely to come from and put yourself in that area, or simply sign off and come back when you feel it will be busy again. The only contact you will receive from UBER will be via email or text notifications, face to face contact with UBER is there if you need it, and specific times for calling in to the UBER office in each area are available and regularly sent to UBER drivers. Generally though, any issues you have on a day to day basis are effectively dealt with via email communication, and the plus to this mode of communication is that you can send your issue and continue with your work, UBER are quick to respond and solve issues whatever they may be. UBER communication to drivers is always super polite. Night time hours are busy for UBER drivers, and there is a real sense of security working at night time. There are no money issues because everything is paid electronically, runners are a thing if the past, and drivers and passengers are able to rate each other at the end of each journey which means there is a lot more mutual respect between passenger and driver. You get paid for no fares. If a passenger books a ride with you and you show up at the designated collection point, after 5 minutes you can cancel the journey and you are paid a £4 callout fee. It is good practice to try and contact the rider before cancelling as you might be cancelling a high value fare. Contacting a passenger is very easy, you can text or call them via the UBER app. Both yours and the passengers personal telephone numbers are not shown, and you have your own personal UBER contact number which is the number seen by passengers when you text or call them about a booked trip. Once the trip is finished, the UBER contact number is not available to route through to each other anymore. Drivers do need to have hands free facilities in their vehicles . |

Our base charges £150/wk base rent regardless of what work you get And creams the account work, probably 20% for them |

Quote: UBER drivers do not know the destination of any job provided until the passenger is collected and the trip begins. I recommended this practice at our agm this year, the idea was dismissed, my thinking was it cuts down the amount of jobs rejected by cherry pickers Uber can only survive in large Cities, I can't see them becoming significant up here, most punters prefer to pay in cash and is it safe uploading ones bank details to an App, risky in my opinion. |
