Hi everyone, I do apologise if this topic has been covered before but after a bit of searching I haven't found what I'm loking for. I have been interested in driving a black hack for a while now and basically I need some info. I have a full time job at the minute, so ideally I would want to start off driving in my spare time. Oh before I forget, I'm in Glasgow. Where do I start? What do I need? Hope someone can help. Thanks. |

Contact your local council taxi licensing department, and they will be able to point you in the right direction.

Try looking in this thread and associated links - it's about PH, but the links include taxi advice as well. http://taxi-driver.co.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2760 |

Here's a funny thing in Edinburgh, we have a Glasgow hack who passed the Edinburgh knowledge and actually works through here. He reckons the money is better because of the Ph problem in Glasgow, you might want to think about jumping cities if you want to earn some cash in the short term. Don't know how long it is going to last but it might be better than working in Glasgow.

So how does he communicate? Does he have an interpreter on board when he's working?

Don't know how long it is going to last but it might be better than working in Glasgow. Don't know if it's still the same, but a couple of years ago Glasgow plates were worth a bit more than Edinburgh plates. With situations like this there's maybe more to it than meets the eye? Has he got an Edinburgh plate, for example, but can't get one in Glasgow because he would have to buy one? Another thing is that while you may think Glasgow has a lot of PH, by English standards it's certainly not hugely PH-biased. In Glasgow around 60% of the combined fleet is PH, while in Manchester it's around 65%, Leeds it's over 85% while even in unrestricted Birmingham it's around 75%. Edinburgh is certainly an exception big city wise with PH in the minority, but Liverpool is certainly similar in this regard. Of course, we can't forget sleepy old Lincoln, which is nearly 90% PH.

Not half as funny as the Scottish lad who deserted his home land to come down to London and moan about the local LPH.

Ollie As your hero John Griffen recently said Ollie, 'you could'nt survive without me'

Ollie Would that be the same local PH which is run and staffed by anyone apart from those who hold a GB passport then?
