Self-employed WTC claimants with earnings below a threshold (this will be based on working hours
Quote:
and the National Minimum Wage)
will be asked by HMRC to provide evidence that they are in a regular and organised trade, profession or vocation on a commercial basis and with a view to achieving a profit.

So basically drivers should be employed?????

Might cut down on the fraudulent claims WTC and WFTC and get rid of some taxi drivers who are milking the system AND earning good money from driving...

So HMRC havent noticed the claims from drivers averaging £2.50/hr for the 14 kids?

nice topup - or subsidy if you like - you might find a few pack in leaving more for the genuine drivers

The information we ask for should be available as part of normal business activity, for example receipts and expenses, records of sales and purchases. We may also ask for supporting documents such as a business plan, planned work, cash flow and profit projections.

During the early stages of self-employment it may prove difficult to make a profit. If someone in this situation claims WTC they may be asked to show that they have a commercial approach and how their business would become profitable. This could be demonstrated in a business plan.

HMRC will use the information provided to reach a decision about the claimants’ current WTC award.

Claimants may lose their WTC if they cannot provide the evidence we ask for and may have to repay any tax credits they are not entitled to.

Claimants who disagree with our decision can ask for us to look at the decision again.

Are HMRC assuming that all self Employed people are Business owners?...I mean who else would have a Business plan etc.

Are they Trying to crack down on the Non Business owning self employed driver from working as a driver in an attempt to turn self employed drivers into employees instead, which in reality they are but which is less convenient to the Fleet owners who would have to pay towards their pensions and Holidays etc?

I'm confused, not about the Tax credit bit, but the whole reasoning bit behind it..please explain it slowly to me.

The reasoning is simple cut the benefit bill.

And boost the pension funds who have been behind much of forcing pensions on everyone because it pushes up fund values in the short term and earns them a huge wedge of commission to boost their profits and by the time everyone realises it is only new money going into the pot that generates "growth" just like a Ponzi scheme they will have another huge wedge of cash going in from all those "self employed" drivers who have newly been converted to "employed" and so now have to pay into the pension pot
