It’s an insult.

I would sooner not go on that flight than be insulted every day.

I consider the payment for doing the job as enough. If someone wishes to give me 10p or 20p extra by rounding up a fare I am happy. In my opinion if drivers start to think they are entitled to a tip for doing their job right it is a slippery slope for customer service.

Tricky one, and I can see why X-ray was annoyed, but I'd have just added the 10p and said nothing :-#

It's always nice to get a tip, even if it's only 10p or so, but I notice it more on the short trips. For example, for years the main student halls here were £4.95 on T2, and the vast majority of students would take the 5p :x

And late night in term time it wasn't that unusual to get maybe three or four of those £4.95 student runs on the bounce, and they'd all wait for the 5p

Another student hall from the station was £9.90 on T1 for years, and I recall only getting the 10p as a tip on maybe 1 in 5 or maybe even just 1 in 10 trips

I generally round down the longer trips as well. For example, £20.40 and I'd normally just ask for the £20. Which prevents counting out the change, and avoids the possible annoyance if I ask for £20.40 and there's zero tip :-o

Of course, with the card payments it's a different dynamic, and I'm maybe less likely to round down, because there's no change to count out.

For example, a student run clocking at £5.15 I'd normally round down if it's cash, particularly with the annoying 5p, and because I'd know there's little chance of a tip anyway. But with a card payment it's obviously not an issue simply keying in £5.15 rather than £5.00, and the 15p will cover the charge.

Of course, and coming back to X-ray's run, some people are so, er, arithmetically challenged that their perception of what they were tipping him is maybe a bit different to his perception O:)

as a general rule I used to find fewer people tipped when paying by card but a tip is bonus not a right

and to quote Dickens "look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves" or "never look a gift horse in the mouth" also comes to mind

I never expect a tip and generally accept that if it’s a card payment I’m not getting one. But 10p, stick it!!!

Stupid mates.

One of them keeps his bank card inside his mobile phone cover.

At the weekend his card paid for two of his customer's fares. #-o

People who spend forever at the end of a job trying to get their cash out. FFS you know where you live get it out in good time.

People who at the end of the job want to have an in-depth chat on the ways of the world. FFS pay up and get out.

People who think a baby isn't a person. I bet they change their tune should there be an accident and an insurance claim.

our T2 starts at 19.00 now, that is our private hire rate not the Council hackney rate.

Had a similar one earlier, but at the other end of the fare scale. So for maybe a decade at least our T2 flag has been £3.95, and it clocks up in 20p increments, so 1 in 5 runs of any distance will clock at .15p

So have probably had thousands of runs over the years clocking at £x.15

Anyway, this regular fare gets in, and no one generally wants to take him because it's little more than a half mile, and I could write a book chapter about him and the drivers, and the fannying about that happens sometimes. But at least he usually gives you the fiver.

Anyway, last night it clocked at £4.15, he handed me a fiver and said "call it £4.20" ](*,)

I gave him the pound change and told him to keep the 15p :P

As I said, probably had thousands of runs clocking at £x.15 over the years, but people have either said round it up to the 50p or to the next pound (or better), or I'll round it down (if it's £10.15, say).

Or, of course, some would just take the 85p change :-|

But pretty sure that's the first one who's ever said to round the 15p up to 20p

Customer who refuses to pay the £150 airport fare because the aircon was not working properly but wont have the windows open at all. The outside temperature was 22 degrees and cloudy.
