I have 60 percent of my drivers who refuse or keep coming up with excuses for not having card payment facility the only way to get them to do it would be if we could charge more for taking payment on card

they assume if they don't take card the customer will simply pay cash therefore no paper trail or commission

What do the thick southern (Lincolnshire) idiots do when the punter assumes that they can pay by card at the end of the journey and have no other means of payment? Sack the fick thuckers unless they get a payment terminal. Or tell us why not.

One reason why some drivers wont us card terminals is because punters don't tip as well when paying by card.

so not because it creates a paper trail for HMRC to follow when they swoop?

which is the odd thing about 40,000 uber drivers all payments on record

I said SOME drivers. Yes SOME drivers may not like the paper trail as well.

But if the punter gets into another car, or ring another firm, the drivers chance of getting a tip are zero.

but round here only a few do and most are on my board so if they want to pay by card options are limited

the only solution might be if we can persuade the council to do a fares rise and then say to the drivers ALL cash jobs discounted to the old fares but can charge new fares on card

I didn't think your council set fares. I thought it was down to individual firms to set their own fares.

So a metered £10 cash run will meter at £10.18 or thereabouts if it's a card run? :-s

Wouldn't cause any confusion at all [-(

Anyway, card payment surcharges were abolished by legislation in 2018, and any local authority allowing such charges for HCs followed suit, so SKDC couldn't implement such a scheme even if they wanted to.

Only plausible solution is compulsory card readers, which some LAs have obviously implemented already.

And it was on the cards for it to become more widespread before Covid held things up a bit (see what I did there? )

But for obvious reasons I suspect that eventually Covid will hasten the implementation of compulsory card readers, rather than delaying them as council bureaucracies have ground to a halt because of the pandemic.

NO simples put the metered rate up to £3.80 for first mile but insist the drivers can only charge £3.50 for first mile if cash they'll get card readers then

Indeed, they'd like an extra 30p on the fare if it'll only cost them 6p in fees :?

But doubt the customers or coucillors would be impressed.

Anyway, illegal and simply won't happen [-(
