I would expect that the guys that jumped with him were there as a sort of safety net, basically to make sure that he was on track for the net itself. Tbh not quite the way that I like to get my kicks.

The father of one of my school mates holds the British record for the highest jump without a parachute. His name was Nicholas Stephen Alkemade. He was the tail gunner in a Lancaster that was shot down. He jumped from 18,000 feet without his parachute, which had been destroyed by the fire in the plane, because he didn't want to burn to death. His fall was broken by some pine trees and a covering of snow. He never even broke a bone.

Some guy jumped out of a plane and his parachute wouldn't open. To his surprise he noticed someone hurtling upwards towards him, he shouts across 'Do you know anything about parachutes?' No, came the reply - 'You know anything about fixing gas ovens?'
