in 1996 GB finished 36th in the medals table with just 1 gold and 15 medals total
in 2000 we got 28 medals including 11 golds and finished 10th
in 2004 we also finished 10th but with 30 medals including 9 gold
2008 4th place with 47 medals of which 19 were gold
2012 3rd place with 65 medals of which 29 were gold
2016 currently 2nd place 55 medals 21 of which are gold

wow could little old Great Britain finish in 2nd place ahead of China and Russia we've done very well considering we are only 10 medals behind our total for our home Olympics

Rio could yet turn out to be our best ever Olympics =D> =D> =D> =D>

there is still a minimum standard to be achieved so he must be a pretty descent swimmer just to be able to enter my niece swam in the British Olympic trials all the swimmers in her heat made that time (she finished 6th behind Jazz Carlin) but in at least 2 heats none of the swimmers made the basic time despite the strength of british swimming talent) so it isn't a formality
