How are local taxi firms in your city dealing with Uber?

Post subject:  How are local taxi firms in your city dealing with Uber?
Are they standing their ground? Losing? Anything they're doing particularly well or badly?

(I'm assuming everyone on this forum is not Uber, right?)

We don't have UBER in our little town but I have noticed an MPV picking up a school run at the school I pick up at that has UBER stickers on the side. I haven't had time to speak to the driver yet.

None in Donny yet nearest to us is Sheffield, I can't see them being much of a threat here as our customers are used to knowing exactly what the fare will be when they get in.

I did say ages ago that I did not see it affecting anything much outside of the Major/bigger Cities.

The trade should be hammering home to the LA's as to how much it could affect them in the long run ie job losses. Imo it is not something that has crossed their radar.

Uber are merely a PH operator, they might have money behind them for now, but an operator is all they are.

At one time they had a technological advantage, but now their are many apps that at least match their's.

Other than in London Uber are not the leading firm, and I think that will remain the case.

So to answer your question, Uber will not mean the end of the world for anyone, apart from maybe the numpties that are backing it with billions.

If Uber is allowed to flood the market with drivers from out of the Borough who pay their licence fees elsewhere, then you could have a situation (through lack of work) whereby drivers (say from Cardiff) end up packing it in. You then have reduced income to the LA = redundancies in the LA offices.

well in Birmingham (the 2nd biggest city) UBER only use Birmingham plated PH cars

as for LA staff redundancies.....weve got 2 part timers

so the UBER driver numbers would far offset that

"2 Part timers" for the whole of Birmingham :shock: Amazing to think that they can cover all of the taxi licenses, pub & club licenses, sex shop licenses, plus enforcement. It sounds like a case to be made against the Council......... to stop them from keeping slaves :shock:

The 2 main pH firms merged in Sheffield and created app booking similar to uber just before they were licenced.some drivers came off uber sharply when they got low ratings.They have definitely taken some work but alot of their numbers seem to be out of town licensed hacks and pH.they seem to like the extra work.most of the work is short inner city work,chinese and students.I myself do pH work in midweek daytime in adjoining areas but unlike them I don't illegally ply late on weekend nights as they definitely do blatantly and they are generally 30/50 miles away from their Licensing area although they all live locally and are related to our drivers.

So what was the point of you commenting on Birmingham? Assuming of course that you know what you are talking about!

Tbh it seems highly unlikely that Birmingham is being run by two part timers #-o
