One of the students that we pick up lives no more than 400 yards from the school (11-16). The reason that they get transport is because there is no footpath at the side of the road. This student is picked up on a run that includes 3 other students so the actual cost for this particular pickup doesn't affect the price by more than £1.00. However the pick up time is at 08.35 but mum has to leave at 08.30 to take her other kids to a school across town and then go to work. The parents asked if we could pick up 10 minutes earlier in the morning to which we said no because that would impact on the other 3 students meaning that the first one would be picked up before 08.00. Dad tells me that in that case we are not to pick the student up in the morning as mum can drop him off because she goes past the school anyway.
Now that is taking the plss!

No, I'm not. And mum drives past the school at the same time that we pick up. You can't make this stuff up.

Ive seen quite a few cases where I wonder how they get away with it

like free transport when the parents own 2 x £500K houses, a factory, 2 beemers, motorbikes and a Caterham sports car...

I have had a call today from County Hall asking if we can put a larger vehicle on the same run because they want to add another 2 students. They told me the pick up pointand I said that we could but the larger vehicle would cost 50% more. They agreed the price. The daft thing here is that there is a bus runs from the top of the road to the school. We used to run this service ourselves. The cost of the bus is £1.00 each way so £4.00 per day. I am getting an extra £17.00 per day.

Due to traffic problems today 1 kid (in a car alone) didnt arrive at the school (on a 32 mile/1 hour trip) till 09.17 (i saw him go in) so the 12ft high gates were closed, he tried the intercom/buzzer and the office said "last entry is 09.15"
