Post subject:  steel seal
well what i thought was a thermostat problem turned out to be the head gasket on its way out :roll: ( i hate this fooking car :lol: ) anyway , my mech suggested we try "steel seal" as its just on its way out & not completely gone, he has had a few punters ( 3 actually , 1 sold the car instantly as it worked, & the other 2 are still working fine , both taxis ) just wondering if anyone has used it before? must admit the car is running great now, no smoke, white cloud's, just wonder how long it will last though :? anyone used it ?

just get rid of it... we always say "never, ever buy car on "f" - Fiat, Ford and French"... must be something on it... i've third in row a Pug...

You'd be surprised, my credit rating is shocking. £9k owing on a credit card, overdraft at the bank, earnings low enough to get working tax credit, doing a soft search for loans showed I wasn't eligible for any, none of the card companies would let me transfer my debt to an interest free card.

Yet managed to get a car on finance through Cab Direct no problem. All they wanted was a couple of bank statements (which showed I was £2k overdrawn) and some household bills for id. I think it's easier to get car finance than an ordinary loan because if there's any problem with the repayments they can easily just take the vehicle back off you.

Nowadays it's not so much your credit rating that counts but your affordability rating, how much spare cash you have after all your outgoings that count. Even though I have a fair bit of debt I still had more than enough to cover the monthly repayments. What really kills your chances is if you've missed any card payments or not paid utility bills etc., the biggest though is having had a payday loan from the likes of Wonga.

I used steel seal or something similar on my Range Rover engine and that stopped the slight head gasket blow. I've known of people using it on old bus engines and it works on those too.

For small water leaks, even from the head, I use K seal. It seems to work well.

All these leak fixers also have a habit of clogging up the heater matrix :sad:

K Sel was the stuff I used in my partner's Vauxhall Corsa. That still works ok.

not a chance mate, im sorry but i do appreciate the lads cars on here, the couple of white skodas were class, but i think you must have a screw lose buying a new taxi with all the chite we pick up mate
