I think the accepeted wisdom is that the Friday before Xmas is perhaps the busiest night of the year for people like taxi drivers and the pub trade.

However, last night didn't seem as busy as I thought it would be, and from what's been said on the Fastblacks forum it seems that this was also evident in Edinburgh.

Perhaps the fact that Xmas is so close to Friday this year meant that people on Xmas nights out on the like did this last weekend instead? There were certainly some people starting their hols from last weekend, as opposed to the more usual 'weekend before Xmas'. Or perhaps because Xmas eve is on a Saturday this year we'll have a busier than usual night tonight?

So how was last night for you?

Yes, I'm inclined to agree, but obviously everyone else has been too busy to comment

Xmas Eve was very poor as well.

More or less the same up here

I'm Private Hire btw

Christmas Eve was shocking, waiting 30 min for a job etc although I got a Glasgow to Stirling just as I was about to call it a night (at Fare and Half quoted at £48) which kinda helped me out.

Christmas Night was very very good - non stop all night, punters giving huge tips etc

Was off Boxing Day and today - back tomorrow until Monday

I worked Friday the 16th and it was very very busy, was expecting the same from the 23rd and it was no where near. So I took the 24th, 25th, 26th & 27th off. Planning on working tomorrow till the 2nd and they its my turn to get minced.

So you had no unmet demand and an over supply of Taxis on Xmas eve but unmet demand and an under supply of Taxis on Boxing day? I suspect that trend was echoed in the vast majority of cities around the UK. I don't know about rural towns?

Xmas was not bad at all for me this year. :D

But I suspect the rest of the year will not live up to that standard.
