One of my drivers has just been told today that they are cancelling the plate on his vehicle (rented from highways at Nottingham) the reason the vehicle has reached ten years from first plating. they issued the plate for a full 12 months but now we are told the plate should have only been issued for the short period up to the 10th anniversary of first registration. Council cocked up but now I have a driver out of work through no fault of his own

I would have lodged an appeal against revocation so that the driver could have continued working,vehicle was licensed for 12 months,passed the test required. |

We have a 10 year policy on our private hire vehicles but if they are in mint condition they can continue until such time as they aren't. Why not appeal as already suggested. |

vehicle is owned by the rental company and it certainly isn't mint condition they had promised the driver that they would replace it this year but didn't. It is up to them to appeal but the boss of the rental company has a bit of an attitude problem so will probably get into a big row with council |

The 10 year rule here is that if the vehicle is under 10 years old when the plate is issued the vehicle can be run for the full year. I had a vehicle once that was 2 days short of it's 10 birthday when the plate was renewed for the full 12 months. |

The vehicle will continue to be licensed until it reaches the age of 10 years (12 years for purpose built vehicles) as long as the vehicle passes the compliance tests at the required times. the issue is that they issued a 12 month plate instead of a plate to the 10th anniversary of vehicle registration the hire company had originally promised to replace the vehicle which has had reliability issues for the last 18 months as well as being a bit tatty but have kept on patching it up and I doubt they have read the policy document thinking they had got away with another 12 months |

Where in any of the acts does it allow for this? we get a 1 month plate if plating on a V5 "new keepers" only section once of a set age we get 4 month plates (and tests) and they issue a new plate each time |

Section 42 States for 1 year only,but could possibly be issued for a period until the next licensing meeting. 1976 Misc. Provisions Act Section 47 States conditions may be attached on the grant of a license. This could be the only way they could grant a license for less than 1 year.Conditions would have to be attached at time of granting the license,they can not come back and say it should have been attached or change the time limit of the license. Council has failed in LAW and is open to redress the parties involved in their mishandling of this scenario. |

Car has gone back to rental company plate to council so now I'll have to rent him my car and use 8 seater

rental company have been avoiding my driver since but we managed to get them to answer the phone today  It's not my drivers fault but they are not bothered about putting things right  or even about communication
