In the last 24 hours 3 drivers have driven into floodwater and killed the cars in our area. 2 of them in the same "puddle". Yes, one of them was one of our cars. |

Join the club one of my drivers did that last night trying to find his way round the villages because of the A47 closure  so having just gone to bed I had to get up go and do Leicester pick up and then get up again at 04.45 to do a Peterborough at least in my case it is his own car BUT I am now possibly in the situation of 2 drivers having lost their cars and having to share my 3 between 5 !!!!! ](./images/smilies/eusa_wall.gif "Brick wall") and had to take myself off the road at 2 this afternoon leaving us woefully short handed because i was too knackered

When the water is sucked in through the air intake the bores get flooded. The valves close on the compression stroke so there is nowhere for the water to go and because it doesn't compress the con rods usually break and if you are lucky they don't go through the side of the engine. Either way though the engine is fooked. |

rarely does water go into the air intakes unless theres a bow wave...manufacturers realised low air intakes caused problems (years ago a mate in a Rover hit a puddle and bent all 16 valves..) Another issue is water ingress causing electrical problems..ECU...sensors....wiring.. what usually happens is the back pressue up the exhaust falls and sucks back water, which is why thge advice is to increase RPM and slip the clutch till out of the water the exhaust below the water is the entry point, off roaders fir snorkels (intake and exhaust) try this

A little bit of advice for anyone driving a TX1 or 2 in these flooded conditions. If you look into your engine compartment you will see that the ventura pipe which comes off your air filter, is placed in a position where it runs down the side of the radiator to the bottom of the engine compartment. You will find it advisable to pull it up and place it across the top of the engine making sure it is safe while the flood conditions are on. This engine will hydrolic if water gets into it; the air intake is like an elephant's trunk, it sucks the water up. Usual damage, bent conrods which shortens the stroke of the engine, which in turn causes lack of compression. Vehicle will usually run but leaves a large grey cloud of unburnt fuel whenever it is running. |

FIT AND PROPER,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,no way
