a taxi driver has been suspended from working at the railway rank, his offence, swearing at a rank marshall belong to the radio company, what powers do these people [taxi drivers] hold, that they can deprive a man of his living and means to earn??

I'm not sure , but does he not have the right of appeal? ie, appeal immediatley, carry on working then go through the correct proceedure within the 21 day appeal process?

If it's a first offence surely a warning would suffice anyway.
These companies will carry on riding roughshod over drivers until someone stands up to them and appeals to a magistrate and gets it sorted once and for all!

THe driver in question as told me he can't afford a solicitor, simple as that so he goes by what the radio company says, banned from working

I suppose if the radio company has the exclusive rights to the rank and he works for them, then they could suspend him. I know if we had a driver who gave a base op grief by verbal abuse then he would be signed off for the rest of the shift then he'd have to go cap in hand to be signed on again the next day, but it wouldnt be more than a day's suspension.

Sounds like by giving the rights to a company rather than the council marshalling it themselves leaves it open to interpretation.

There must be a solicitor who gives free 1st 1/2hr advise in his town.
How long's the suspension for?
Sounds like it's not a first offence?

He doesn't work for the radio company, the taxi marshall picked the job at the side of the rank, parallel to the rank, as the driver in question was first car he threw a wobbler as legaly it was his job, 3 day suspension, clear off don't come back complete with letter from hack company, w a kers.

So if he's allowed to rank at the station i assume all Hack's are? if thats the case whats a Marshal working for a radio company doing there in the first place? :x
If he's first car then the other driver should have refused the fare and pointed out that it should go to first on rank!

Is it any wonder why our trade is in ruins with drivers not backing eachother up!!
Imagine the world if we all got on with eachother, We had to threaten to take everyone into town on a saturday night and then all knock off for the night at 10pm once, because of the Police doing spot checks on Weekend nights. They soon changed their minds!

That's the problems with station permits, they can taken away at will.

It might be an idea to get the press involved.

Another driver bites the dust this evening, 24hr suspended from the Railway rank, offence, the Rank Marshall didn't like the look of his trousers, he thought they were "cords" and the drivers shirt was hanging out the back, funny how they pick on rental drivers, petty ain't it

Any customer needs customers to survive. Companies which have a perceived 'captive' base often have a very cavalier attitude to their customers.

I'm not sure how many drivers this firm has, or it's overheads, or it's break-even point but one thing is certain, if the continue with this very poor approach with their drivers enough of them will leave or 'take a week off' leaving them in some serious financial trouble!

Sounds like they could do with a reality check anyway
