can anyone out there tell me if virgin trains can put i limit on how many permits it issues for taxis to ply for hire on its forecourt

I think the short answer is that if it's Virgin's private property (or the property owner has given Virgin the right to control the property) then basically the answer is yes. Basically, any property owner can control who they admit to the property.

As regards the railways specifically, I think the stations belong to Network Rail but they lease the stations to the train operating companies like Virgin and GNER, thus the latter can effectively use the property as they see fit, as long as it's within the terms of their agreement with Network Rail, but I have little doubt that it is.

Their may be a long answer to this, but I don't have it :)

Wasn't the 'Brighton argeement' where the hypocrites in the T&G were spouting about 'Free and Open Acess' to stations, airports etc while at the same time colluding to do the opposite at Brighton station because it suited them? [-X

But I think things have moved on now, although I don't know the exact details, but I'm sure some of the posters will know.

Somewhere there is an article from the OFT and Monopoly Commission frowning on this , GNER was told they can't restrict, but they do

virgin dont run brighton station. :?
but the history of the permits is that the t&g tried to stop the new lads who had just got plates from the council from gettong station passes. :sad:
against there national policy. [edited by admin]. :sad:
but now we all have passes. as long as you do the fare fares rides and dont tuck up customers on out of town work.

On their land they can do as they wish. They could insist on red taxis with blue stripes if they want.

But they usually use the congestion justification to limit the number of permits, of course supported by those lads with permits. :shock:

But it was noteworthy that the OFT report studiously failed to mention the issue. Deliberately, methinks.

so a dozen or so drivers meet up in a club and decide that i cant pick up in my own station.
all u ever hear about from the T&G is free and open this that and the other.
#but when it comes down to it its lets sh** on the drivers.
